After beating off competition from food and drink producers from around the country, Duns-based company Farne Salmon has today (13 December) been named ‘Food and Drink Exporter of the Year 2006’ at the prestigious Food from Britain Export Awards, in association with The Royal Bank of Scotland and The Grocer magazine. This was just one of Farne Salmon’s achievements as it also scooped a further hat-trick of awards, including Frozen or Chilled Exporter of the Year, Private Label Exporter of the Year and Scottish Exporter of the Year, sponsored by the Scottish Development Council. Farne Salmon is one of the biggest smoked salmon producers in Europe and its achievements reflect the company’s commitment to developing its international operations. In 2006, it boosted its export sales by almost 50% year on year and its export activity now totals 38% of overall business.
